spring color: inspiration for a mint and blue wedding

Mint and blue.  Preppy and classy with a side of travel.

Wedding Paper Divas' "Airmail" Invitation

Baby's Breath bouquet from Heather Glen

Aren't these mint bridesmaids' dresses dreamy?  I love the ruffle details
around the hem, and it looks like the bride let her girls choose their own
shoes in silver.  That's what I did and my bridesmaids really appreciated it!

Baby's breath is one of the most affordable wedding flowers
because it's seen as a "filler flower."  This aisle decor would
be a cinch to DIY with wholesale baby's breath and ribbon.

I can't do a mint round-up without a minty drink!

spring color: mint

This spring's mint is a fresh take on 1980's seafoam.  Here are the color pairings I've seen that make mint contemporary, feminine and chic.

clicks of note.

WATCH.

  • This summer's season of SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE premieres this Thursday, May 24th. Wives, if you need help convincing your husbands that you need to watch a dance show, show them this video.
READ.
  • Michelle's post on being a people-pleaser at her blog, SomeGirl's Website, really rang true for me.  Do all teachers struggle with this?  Probably.  All bloggers?  Almost definitely.
  • If I wasn't already girl-crushing on Scarlett Johansson after watching The Avengers, her Huffington Post article about weight and exercise would have done the trick.
COOK.
  • The Country Cook's Sweet Chicken Nuggets taste very close to Chick-Fil-A, and the post includes a honey mustard recipe - I thought the honey mustard was a little thin so I added brown sugar to mine.

pink and green cheer me up; it's my inner prep.

One of the things about being married that I'm still getting used to is Mr. Q sometimes knowing better than me what is good for me.  Yesterday was a prime example.  On the majority of Friday afternoons I am exhausted after going at 100% all week.  Last week was busy and stressful - afterschool tutoring, talent show auditions, a parent calling the principal when I wasn't available to take his phone call, trying to find a tactful way to explain to said parent that his child had lied to him, finding out that one of the seventh grade teachers used our textbook last year and having to change my lesson plan at the last minute, and finding out that one of my best friends is having a really tough personal situation... my plan for the evening was going to bed.  After which I would have probably woken up still grumpy.

Mr. Q changed my plan for the evening to dinner with the guys followed by this amazingness...

Sweet Frog cheesecake, peanut butter and strawberry frozen yogurt with cherries and waffle cone!

spring color & wedding wednesday: a neon party!

Nothing would say "fun, young couple" like a neon wedding, but for those of us too traditional to take that kind of leap, a neon birthday party or bridal shower could be just as much fun.  Or:  how much fun would it be to have a traditional black-tie wedding, and then BAM! neon reception!?

spring color: solar power

I've seen a lot of neon yellow inspiration on the web this spring, and I.  love.  it.  Maybe it's my love of blindingly-bright Sharpie highlighters spilling over into my love of fashion?  Maybe it's just so freaking cheerful, and I need as much cheer as possible in my life?  Unfortunately when I went into actual stores in search of neon I came home empty-handed.  Fear not:  that's why we have the Internet.

Anthropologie tucked tiered skirt

Treasure Blue Peruvian bracelet - each is one of a kind and adds a little boho flair.

LOFT snakeskin sandals - on my spring wish list!

Neon French tip manicure from Cult of Pretty - I think this is amazing.

Need plans for tonight?

Over the past year or so, our little ol' hometown has gotten a bit more interesting... a film called Lake Effects was made here starring Jane Seymour, Scottie Thompson, Madeleine Zima, and Ben Savage. Many locals appeared as extras, including my (now retired) boss in a "Viking funeral" scene shot on the water.  My friends' band, Barefoot West, play in the bar scene and have a few songs on the soundtrack.

AND I got to meet Ben Savage at the premiere after-party!

Lake Effects will air on the Hallmark Movie Channel tonight at 8/7c.  I'll be live-tweeting any random tidbits about Smith Mountain Lake I can add at @heatherbquinn.

Happy Cinco De Mayo!

Are you doing anything special for Cinco de Mayo?  Since going out to a Mexican restaurant on Cinco de Mayo is usually as much of a nightmare as cramming yourself into an Irish pub on St. Patrick's Day, here are some recipes to try for an at-home fiesta:

- Chicken Fajitas from Skinny Taste
- Crockpot Carnitas from Shape Magazine
- Muffin Tin Tacos from Hispanic Kitchen
- Cheesy Enchilada Casserole from Just Get Off Your Butt and Bake
- Skinny Taco Dip from Skinny Taste
- Taco Pie from Mel's Kitchen Café
- Taco-Night Pasta from Family Circle
- Taco pizza via my coworker Amy
- Fiesta Lime Rice from Skinny Taste
- Zesty Shrimp and Avocado Salad from Skinny Taste
- Watermelon Margaritas from Anthropologie (I want those glasses, btw!)

p.s. Happy Derby Day to my fellow Southerners and Southerners-at-heart!  Here's one of my favorite pictures from Annie Edmond's shoot for Southern Weddings mag.
